Goodness in Regional Ministry
Bill Spangler-Dunning asked: “If I asked for you to lift up one ministry of one congregation in your Region (Geographic and Non-geographic Regions), what congregation/ministry would you lift up? Don’t make it complicated just tell me the name and what it is.”
Here are the responses.
- FCC Anchorage, AK. Single-handedly maintaining a Disciples presence in Alaska and particularly now their engagement in the Moral Movement and Poor People’s Campaign (and it was hard to choose. There were plenty of other contenders)
- Glendale, [AZ], Foothills Christian Church. They’ve helped to resettle refugees, establish partnerships to address food insecurity in their community, supported countless teacher’s families with groceries during the red for ed rallies, and have been working to develop their area inter-faith relationships.
- Tempe [AZ], Community Christian Church, they’ve continued to address food insecurity in their community, helping to care for the homeless, and are tireless in welcome.
- Tucson [AZ], Saguaro Christian Church, they’ve continued to address food insecurity in their community to include a community kitchen to be built this year. Which will help them to further initiatives.
- First Christian, Little Rock, AR. From conflicted to transformed, to moving into a new smaller facility this summer in the heart of West Little Rock!
- Parkway Gardens Christian Church summer program for youth in the city of Chicago—MOMS. A partnership with the mothers in the housing project next door to the church.
- For Greater Kansas City it would be Shawnee Community which went from a struggling church with a huge building debt to a more nimble, missional church that has become a draw for people who had given up on church.
- FCC, Henderson, KY paid for all the school lunches at a nearby school.
